The EeePC 900 is Available! But…

On one of my previous posts, I have been raving about the ASUS EeePC 900, the next model (or “generation”, as ASUS’ advertising says) of ASUS’ EeePC line, complete with 8.9″ screen with a 1024×600 resolution, 12Gb storage memory, a larger trackpad, and 1Gb RAM. It was supposed to go for $600, or in our currency (Philippine Pesos), around Php 25,000.
It was my surprise that I sumbled upon this particular retailer’s webpage already, which shows that they already are selling the EeePC 900. And I was even more surprised to find out that they were selling it for 34,000 pesos, or around $800.
Aw come on, the Eee 900 goes for only $600. And they were selling it for $800. That is too much of a price increase here. And I know that that some retailers are actually selling their products here at a premium, but I’m hoping that other retailers don’t follow suit. I mean, a $800 EeePC totally defeats the original purpose, right?

I don’t think you can get an Eee preinstalled with windows here, though. It’s only available in Japan, I think. But the EeePH people will help in replacing Linux with Windows.

i just bought an EEE PC900 for PHP22,000 cash — your option is to take this at PHP25,000 over 12 months at zero interest using any credit card — this is true for both linux and windows versions. This is the going rate now in most computer shops in SM megamall, Greenhills and Gilmore. The older PC700 4GB is now selling for only PHP16,000 cash in the same stores above.

The price somewhat the same (I ofen convert saudi riyals to peso everytime I purchase something), the cost is SR1999 (My eeepc 900/Linux) (around Php23,750), prices over Php25,000 is VERY EXPENSSIVE for this small device.
