Should I switch back to Linux? What distro should I go for?
So I’ve been using Windows XP on my ancient Eee 701 for almost a year now. I’ve had no complaints with it. Well, not until lately. Somehow Firefox has been crashing on me so much that it’ll be a miracle to surf the web without my favorite browser crashing on me within an hour. I tried to use Chrome, but somehow it gave my beloved Eee a bout of BSODs that disappeared after I uninstalled it. Frankly, I’m getting fed up with all the software crashes I’ve been getting here.
It’s gotten so bad that I’m planning to switch back to Linux after months of convincing myself that Windows XP is the way. Now the question is: what distro should I use? I’ve been hearing good things about CrunchEee, but I want to make sure I’m getting the best Eee-made distro out there.
What do you guys think? Help me out here, and recommend a great Linux distro for me.

For slower eeePC`s I prefer eeeXUbuntu. It works great on my EEE701.

Not sure about its compatibility with the 7-inch series but eeebuntu base v.3 runs great on my 901. You can always “test drive” any of these with Live CD or flash drive.

I use plain old Ubuntu Linux (actually Ubuntu 9.04 now) on my Eee 901, installed on the small 4 GB SSD (with 1,25 GB free space!). Custom kernel from Array.org, but Ubuntu’s eeepc one is just as fine. Lightning fast, standard Gnome desktop, plenty of apps, dual monitor, GSM modem, WiFi, VNC, SSH server, mail server, Wine, you name it — all the good stuff. “Upgraded” from Ubuntu Eee (now Easy Peasy) — highly recommended. Some large SD cards provide extra storage. Obviously I use my Eee for browsing, downloads, music and light stuff. At times I boot the Mac OS X Leopard (iDeneb) from the other SSD, but it’s so slow…

I have Ubuntu Netbook Remix in my Eee701, and I’m loving it. Connecting to the internet with your mobile phone as the modem has never been this easy. It just works out of the box.
