I had many of the difficulties installing vlc on my eee, but found Grumbles post above using the synaptic package manager the best way to avoid package dependency problems.

I also received the gpg error and solved it using this post

If you have an Asus Eee 701 and have dependency issues that are blocking your attempts to install VLC in the year 2010…

EXAMPLE:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
vlc: Depends: libgtk2.0-0 (>= 2.12.0) but 2.8.20-7 is to be installed
Depends: libnotify1 (>= 0.4.4) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libnotify1-gtk2.10
Depends: libwxgtk2.6-0 (>= 2.6.3.2.2) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

Grumble’s advice of using oldstable instead of stable worked for me…

it actually makes sense when you think about it…

Hello my little eee pc 900 does not want to run the VLC program when I do all the things you say over there! It completly get me mad because there are some films I want to watch from my USB keys that I cannot watch. Does anyone found a solution about it??? :/ thanks

PS! I am not a computer expert!!!

I am also getting the pubkey errors when reloading the synaptic manager:

Any ideas?
