I think Frank is right. The problem is actually with xp rather than with the pc. I too saw almost an entire movie with the battery showing just ten percent.

I don't think there's actually a problem with the battery discharging. I've kept a close eye on my son's PC 4G recently - he was complaining he could only run it on mains power because after a few minutes it would go from 100% down to 10%.

It turns out that WinXP is reporting the battey life incorrectly and it's a long running problem with XP. I've today sat and watched a whole 2-hour movie spooled across our wireless network with the battery life stuck at 7% the whole time. In the end I left it switched on but missed the point at which it ran flat and turned itself off.

So, okay maybe *some* people genuinely have a battery problem, but I also think there must be a lot like my son who are only looking at what WinXP is reporting rather than actually trying to use the machine to see how long the battery really lasts. ;-)

It is certainly better than dirt, mud or stone. Due to better construction materials and labor they are a sound alternative for housing.

Looking at all the forums all over the net that speaks of the battery problem of Asus EEE PCs, I guess, there really IS no solution to the issue. So, I keep my 1001HA pretty much plugged in at home. I guess that's the way it will remain.

And, man, it's slow. I mean, slow to respond. That, however, may be caused by the fact that I try to match it with my other laptop (the one they gave me from office) a Core 2 Duo with 2 GB RAM. :)

So, no worries, low expectation, zero frustration, no use crying over spilled milk (money I mean)

Battery has 5 hrs charge not 11 hrs.

Battery drains to flat when unit is switched off.

No review I read mentioned anything about this issue, even though this thread has been around since August 2008. All the reviews I read said this was a great unit. I only found this thread by searching for the problem.

Asus is junk big regret buying this rubbish I will stick to Dell for low-end computing they have great quality control and good after sales (so far). Thanks for this thread with the real review details.

Just got a 1005peb only getting around 4-5 hrs not the 9-11 which is advertised. (this is in low power mode) The manual says the bat will only reach its full potential after several cycles of complete discharge and recharge. Then I read online that this will damage li-ion bats. Wth? Any one else do this based on the manual and notice a decrease in performance? Thinking I'll try for a bat replacement, don't really want to send the whole machine in. Bought it solely for mobility.

Hi, I have asus 1005P with ubuntu lucid installed.

Last night I fully charged my battery to a max of 6 hours 50minutes. After a few minutes of using, the indicator applet gave me 5 hours 10minutes battery status. I'm really worried now because my battery is discharging this fast. So I shut down my pc with 5hrs in mind. This morning I turned the pc on and checked my battery status has depleted to 3 hours 10 minutes.

I just lost 2 hours overnight! The battery discharged 2 hours overnight. I dont know if the problem is with the indicator applet of ubuntu which is inaccurate. Or is it the bios? Or the battery itself?

Asus promised 11 hours of battery life for this model but i'm only getting 5 hours! And worse the battery discharges abnormally.
