ThinkFree recently offered a free Netbook Edition license if you answer a simple survey. And the results are as follows:
Economic downturn has spurred people to buy netbooks:
With consumer confidence tumbling, users have become extremely sensitive to price points. Twenty-six percent will spend less for holiday gifts this year than just one year ago. Given this scenario, easy and affordable cloud computing applications may gain further market proliferation over the coming months. Netbook computers make a perfect companion to cloud computing applications.
And people use Netbooks for:
Business
Contact management
Calendar/task management
Document review, minor edits, emergency editing, edit on the go
Basic spreadsheets and presentations
View and edit PDF documents
Blogging
Blog posting
Basic image editing
Entertainment
Web browsing
Music, iTunes
Communications
Email
Instant messaging
VoIP, Skype
Finally, people demand the following from their netbook applications:
Speed
High speed performance
Quick start up
Fast file load and save

I’ll post a review of ThinkFree Office Netbook edition once I’m done playing with it.
And is it time for Eee price drops? The 1000H has its price dropped drastically. In fact, NewEgg is selling the 1000H for only $399.75, way down from the original $550. And it’s even got a larger hard drive.
For that price, you get:
1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU
10.2 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display
1GB of RAM
160GB hard drive
Now is the time to pick up a 1000H, if you ask me.
A few days ago, it was reported that ASUS will begin phasing out their 7 to 8-inch Eee PCs to make the 10-inch Eees the standard. Apparently, ASUS CEO Jerry Shen was misquoted.
a spokesperson for Asus told ZDNet UK that the Taiwanese firm would continue to bring out seven- and 8.9-inch Eee PC models. The spokesperson added that netbooks of these sizes were due a “refreshment on the specifications”, suggesting that new versions of these models could be on the way.
Well, if that’s the case, then we’re looking forward to it.

I want a touchscreen Eee. That much everyone knows. But I don’t want to go through the hassle of opening and soldering my Eee so that I’d get the much-wanted touchscreen. Thankfully, some enterprising soul made this DIY touchscreen kit for the Eee 900/901 and Acer Aspire One. The great thing about this is that it’s solder-less, so I don’t have to get my hands dirty in modding my Eee. For $99.95, you get:
4-wire analog resistive screen
touchscreen response time < 10 mins
high transmittance >85%
25 points linearity position with edge compensation
ASUS is aiming to release a $200 Eee by 2009, according to Digitimes. jerry Shen, Asustek presidemt, detailed that the company has adjusted its mid-range and entry-level Eee PC’s pricing and market position, and expects to launch an Eee PC priced at US$200 in 2009.
He is also optimistic that lowering manufacturing costs will bring down the price of future Eees. Shen also pointed out that 7- and 8.9-inch Eee PCs will be slowly phased out of the market to be replaced by 10-inch products.
If we get a $200 10-inch Eee, it will be absolutely wonderful.

Because going to WePC.com and participating there will help ASUS and Intel know what you want with their next netbook. According to the site:
ASUS and Intel have created WePC.com, a place where users like you come together to share ideas, images and inspiration about your ideal PC. But what if it’s not just talk. Your designs, feature ideas and community feedback will be evaluated by ASUS and could influence the blueprint for an actual notebook PC built by ASUS with Intel inside.
Looks really interesting, and I will definitely try it out.
